The estimated crowd of 500,000 people waiting outside of Buckingham Palace in London for a glimpse of the newly married Royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton, were rewarded with not one, but two balcony kisses from the happy pair who are obviously very much in love.
Prince William surprised pundits by wearing the traditional red uniform of the Irish Guards Infantry regiment, of which he is an honorary colonel. Many expected him to wear the blue flight lieutenants uniform of the royal Air Force to denote his current standing as a search and rescue helicopter pilot.
Kate Middleton, whose new title will now be the Duchess of Cambridge, wore a beautiful white dress and train designed by lead wedding dress designer Sarah Burton from top fashion house, Alexander McQueen.
She looked stunning in the dress that has been described as Gracy Kelly-esque, after the former Monaco Princess.
“Understated, classic and timeless” are words that have been used to describe the dress.
The ceremony at Westminster Abbey went off without a hitch, apart from the Prince fumbling to place the ring on his bride’s finger, where they married in front of nearly 2000 guests including many from the world of showbiz as well as Heads of State from around the world.
The American president, Barack Obama and his wife were notably absent. However, protocol did not require such an invite to be extended.
The happy couple then enjoyed a canapé reception laid on by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
