Scuba Diving Southern California

If you have ever been scuba diving, you have probably heard about the wonderful diving around Los Angeles.

There are three prominent diving destinations that should be included on any diver’s bucket list.

Channel Islands

Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary

There are eight islands that comprise the Channel Islands.  Four of them are included in the National Marine Sanctuary.  These are highly protected islands that are located off the coast of Ventura, California.  Their unique locale and pristine waters make these dives an unbelievable experience.

Oil Rigs

Right off the Long Beach Harbor are several oil rigs.  These attract a wide array of sea life and their convenience to the port make them a must-see diving destination.

Catalina Island Dive Park

This protected dive spot is located in the heart of Avalon and is walking distance from the ferry.  It comes complete with its own kelp forest and an underwater plaque commemorating Jacques Cousteau.

The only thing better than diving one of these locations is to go with your kids.  the water temperature is usually a cool 60 degrees, so a kids wetsuit is vital!  Before diving one of these spots, make sure you have a good dive computer and a backup.  Before purchasing, research good dive computer reviews.  You won’t regret it!
