Essential qualifications and experience for IT developers

The IT sector is one of the few job markets to have remained relatively stable throughout the recession, and so there are still a high number of jobs available to candidates all over the UK. Not only this though, but IT positions are available overseas as well, such as with IT jobs in Zurich, as well as other parts of Europe and Asia Pacific. The economy has affected the IT sector in some ways though, and this means that you will now need to try even harder to make yourself stand out from the crowd.

One of the most important factors of your application will be your knowledge of systems and relevant experience within a similar role, which will heavily influence a hiring manager’s decision. This is no more apparent than for developers in IT banking jobs, who need to be well versed in a number of different software platforms and servers. If you are just starting out in your search for employment as a developer, you will need to put some effort into gaining the proper experience in order to be seen as a genuine candidate for a position.

One of the most important items that you will need to be able to show on your CV is experience of the .NET Framework, which is a piece of software for Microsoft Windows that allows users to code in different programming languages. Within the .NET Framework, it will be useful for you to understand a few of these languages, including C#. These are skills that will be used on a day-to-day basis within your work environment, and so it is a must for IT developers.

Having working experience of server technologies will also count in your favour, so you should look into Apache Tomcat and other similar web servers if you haven’t already. Of course, knowing how to use various operating systems will look good on your CV as well, so you shouldn’t just stick to Microsoft Windows or Mac OS, two of the most common variants. Instead, experiment with Spring, Linux, Unix and Plan 9.

If you would like to further your knowledge and understanding of developer programmes you can even sign up for classes in them, although if you have recently completed an IT-based degree you should now have the proper knowledge to lead you into a career as a developer.

To help you along your way, you should seek out an IT recruitment agency that can help you by finding and applying for the ideal jobs for you, so you can speed up the process of beginning your new job.
